Yesterday, as Franklin woke up to raw, damp weather on the first day of 2025, the spirit of our community was anything but dreary. Despite the chill in the air, paddlers and community members gathered at Mill City Park to celebrate Franklin’s First Day with the annual Polar Plunge—a tradition that reflects the resilience, unity, and passion that defines our city.
The sight of neighbors, families, and adventurers braving the icy waters of the Winnipesaukee River wasn’t just a testament to our collective toughness; it was a reminder of how far we’ve come. Mill City Park, once just an idea, now serves as the heartbeat of Franklin’s revitalization. Yesterday’s event, complete with laughter, cheers, and even a spirited "Chiliest Cook-Off," was proof that even the rawest days can carry a beauty that only community can bring.
A Year of Growth and Gratitude
As I reflect on the past year, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the milestones we’ve achieved together. Mill City Park has continued to grow—not just in its physical development but as a catalyst for economic and community transformation. From welcoming thousands of visitors to hosting groundbreaking events, we’ve proven that Franklin is more than a little city; it’s a testament to what vision, collaboration, and perseverance can accomplish.
This year, we’ve seen:
Continued Development: New amenities and improvements to our little city, as Mill City Park has enhanced its role as a hub for recreation and connection.
Community Engagement: Events like yesterday’s Polar Plunge remind us of the strength and pride of our community.
Economic Impact: Local businesses continue to grow and thrive as Mill City Park attracts visitors and new opportunities.
None of this would be possible without the support, dedication, and love of this community. From the residents who show up rain or shine, to the businesses that believe in Franklin’s potential, to the volunteers who give their time and energy, you are the foundation of everything we’ve built.
Looking Ahead
As we step into 2025, let’s carry forward the energy and hope that filled the park yesterday.
Let’s continue to dream boldly, work tirelessly, and support each other unconditionally. The rawness of the weather may have challenged us, but it’s the rawness of our shared passion and determination that will continue to drive us forward.
Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you plunged into the icy waters, cheered from the sidelines, or simply hold a piece of Franklin in your heart, you’re part of something extraordinary. Here’s to another year of growth, kindness, and community—together, we’re unstoppable.
Warmest wishes for you and yours in 2025,
Marty Parichand
